New Show, New Work

I am currently exhibiting a solo show at the Huntington Community Center Gallery on the 2nd floor. It will be up until December 22. The show is called Remembrance Through Nature and is a collection of scenes from my recent travels.

ARTOMATIC

Only a few more weeks left of ARTOMATIC, be there or be square--which does not give you much of an option.

Good News

I was contacted by someone who was part of the ARTOMATIC board of directors in press and marketing. She flipped through the ARTOMATIC catalog and my painting titled Cosmic Harmony was one of eight that she wanted to use to help market ARTOMATIC. Hopefully the publicity adds some value to this painting.

Thanks for a great show

I just took down the show at Huntington. I was pretty happy with it and got some good comments. Thanks to everyone who was able to come down and see it and a big thanks to Crystal and John.

self portrait

This was a very fun and natural painting to do. I was able to complete it fairly quickly and I am quite happy with the results. It is defiantly going into ARTOMATIC with the solar plates. Like all my paintings it is about 3' by 4'. Unfortunately I only have 11 feet of space which means I have to downsize the vision for this next show. I basically have two avenues that I work in depending on my mood. Half of my images are loner hippies and half are rainbow. Since my last show was my rainbow stuff the next one will probably be loner hippie stuff.

ARTOMATIC info:
I am on the third floor of the half street building next to Nationals Stadium. I am very happy about my location because the third floor is very active, there is a lounge, tattoo parlor, stage, and a theater.

What to do with a solar plate?

So straight B & W prints look all right but what would happen if I did some photo transfers or printed on black paper and beached it? Here's one in my series come to art o matic to see the rest.

An Abstract Expressionist Experience

So I was drawing a model for a few weeks and needed to break away from the form and draw something human like. Especially since the model was offering a lot of body builder poses that I was not too interested in. The process started as just drawing different poses on top of one another. Than to integrate it into a composition I had to pull the forms together somehow. I tried to engage more fully in the physicality of making a drawing but I obviously could not break away from my mannered hand. This is a mixed media piece with charcoal, wax crayon, sharpie, ink, and soft pastel. 18x24

First experience with solar plates

So I accidentally used wood cut ink so it was hard to clean up and it took a while but I have heavy dark black areas in this print. There is also some cool imperfections from it being hard to wipe up. I printed on the back of the BFK so you can see the grain of the paper on some of the prints which gives an interesting effect as well. Overall this is much easier than traditional etching yet uses traditional printing process. I plan to incorporate this print with some photo transfers of flames and red flowers.
